Improving Legacy COBOL

When computer programs have been around for a while, they tend not to age gracefully. No matter what the history of the program, the chances are that they have been updated by a number of programmers with differing experience and expertise.
The result is often that the program is no longer in the best of health. This manifests itself in the same way that old people show their age.
- It takes longer to do what they do – in the immortal words of Fred Wedlock, “it takes me all night to do what I used to do all night” – unfortunately I am beginning to understand what he meant.

Posted in: General | Comments (0)
Google Adsense is an offering from Google which allows website administrators to add relevent advertising to their site quickly and cheaply. There is no need for your business to market for advertisers, Google does this for you.
A quick overview of the process follows.
You have to have a Google Account. Type in www.google.com, hit enter; the page that comes back will display navigation options below the search box when you move your mouse over the page.

What Are Affiliates

If you are just starting with websites, there are several ways of making some money to offset the overheads of running a site. This includes, but is not limited to, Google Adsense; Amazon Associates and various Affiliate schemes.
Google Adsense gives you the opportunity to add small adverts related to the subjects on your site pages. You get paid every time someone clicks on the adverts.
Amazon allows you to put links into their sales pages either in the text or as small adverts; you make money when someone goes to the site and buys something.

New Domains Just Purchased!
Posted in: Sites for Sale | Comments (0)
We were delighted to reserve the two domains shooting-and-fishing.co.uk and shooting-and-fishing.com this morning.
The first will be developed for sale to any UK-based small business and offered for sale as a feeder site for e-commerce. What this means is that the site will attract visitors who can then be directed to an e-commerce site via reviews, promotional offers and so on. The site will also be able to display related adverts from Google, Amazon and affiliate partners. Five or so articles will be written by us for inclusion on the site, and the site will be picked up by Google and Yahoo! before being offered for sale via eBay.

We appreciate that getting your first website up and running may be a daunting task – that is why we are supplying ready-to-roll websites for our clients. But as we talk we discover that what we understand may be a world away from what the average business wants to understand about a website.
With this in mind, and as we talk the new owners of www-chicken-or-egg.co.uk through the process of adding pages, posts and advertising into their new site, we are refining and improving our notes and developing a comprehensive set of how-to notes.
